Paper trading leagues: compete with friends on virtual money, free

A league is a leaderboard for your own group of traders. Make one for friends, a club or your office, send the code, and see who trades best over a week, a month or longer, everyone on the same $100,000 in virtual money and real-time prices. Leagues are free for every member.

The short version: Leagues are the Leagues tab of Rankings: Create a league, Join with a code, your leagues and the monthly JagSim League.

What a league is

Rankings ranks every JagSim account against every other. A league is the same idea for a group you choose: only its members are on its board, and each member’s race starts when they join. Everyone trades their normal JagSim account, so there is nothing new to fund or reset, and your trades count in every league you are in.

Make a league

  1. Open Rankings, press the Leagues tab, then Create a league.
  2. Give it a name of 3 to 40 characters.
  3. Pick how long it runs: 1 week, 1 month or monthly rolling. On the full leagues page you can also pick a start day up to 30 days ahead, any length from 7 days to a year, the most members (2 to 100), and whether you approve each request to join.
  4. Pick who can join: Private, with a code, or Public, listed for anyone.
  5. Press Create league, then Copy invite link and send it.

Join with a code or a link

Press Join with a code and type the league’s code, or paste the whole invite link: both work. An invite link opens the league on Rankings; if you are not signed in, you sign in first and the invite is kept. A public league can be joined from the open leagues on the Leagues tab. A league that has finished, or is full, says so where you pressed.

The monthly JagSim League

JagSim runs one league for everybody, every month. Join it once and you stay in, month after month, until you leave. Its standings restart on the 1st, and a month in which you make no trade shows you unranked. First place each month is named League champion on their profile and on the Leaderboard for the month after, and the Monthly champions row on Rankings lists them.

How a league ranks

A league ranks by return since you joined: your account value now against your account value on the day you joined. The higher percent ranks higher. Members with the same return are placed by the bigger balance, then by fewer trades. Because everyone is measured from their own start, a member who joins with a bigger account has no head start.

This week: who moved

Open one of your leagues and its standings show each member’s move since last week under their place: up 2, down 1, Same or New. Each league’s places are saved once a day, after the close.

What league members see

Joining a league means your paper trades show in its Activity for its members: the stock, buy or sell, how many, and when. Your holdings stay private unless Show my portfolio is on. Anyone with an invite link sees the member count, the days left and the leader’s name and return. You can leave a league at any time. A monthly league takes you back from the next month; a league with a set length does not take you back before it ends. The person who runs a league hands it to another member or closes it instead.

Common questions

Are JagSim leagues free?

Yes. Making, joining and running a league is free for every member, on every plan.

How many people can be in a league?

From 2 to 100. The person who makes it sets the most, and you can be in up to 10 leagues plus the monthly JagSim League.

Do I need a separate account for a league?

No. Every league uses your normal JagSim account and its $100,000 in virtual money. Your return counts from the day you join.

How do I invite friends?

Send them the league’s invite link or its code. A friend without an account signs up free first, then finds the invite on Rankings.

What happens when a league ends?

Its final standings stay with everyone who was in it, and your profile lists your finished leagues.

Are there prizes?

No. The money is virtual and there are no prizes. First place in the monthly JagSim League is named League champion.
