A price alert watches a level for you. Set one on any stock, ETF or coin, and JagSim tells you on screen when the real-time price reaches it, on whichever JagSim page you have open.
The short version: On Chart, press Alert, choose Price above, Price below or % move, type the level and press Set alert. To be told when the price crosses a line you drew, right-click the line. The alert goes off once, on screen, when the price reaches your level.
| Price alert | Stop order | |
|---|---|---|
| At your price | You are told | It sells or buys at the market |
| Uses your cash or shares | No | Yes |
| Needs JagSim open | Yes | No: it is checked against every minute of trading |
On a laptop, the A key sets an alert at the last price in one press. My research, in Research, lists every alert with how far the price is from it.
Right-click a horizontal line, a trend line or a ray you drew on Chart (on a phone, press and hold it) and choose Alert when price crosses this line, then Crosses above, Crosses below or Either way. A trend line’s alert follows the line extended to the right, one step for each candle of the chart’s interval, and when you drag the line its alert moves with it.
In the Alert box, Alert on also offers RSI(14) above or below a level, and a Moving average the price crosses: MA(10), MA(20), MA(50) or EMA(9), worked out as the chart draws them on the chart’s interval. RSI and moving-average alerts are checked while JagSim is open.
Alerts are checked against the same real-time price you see on Chart: the chart you have open on every price update, and your other alerts in turn while any JagSim page is open, so each one is looked at within about a minute and a half. An alert goes off once, when the price reaches your level. It shows as a message on screen and in the activity list on Portfolio, then moves to Alerts that went off, with the level and the last price.
Alerts are kept with your account, not in one browser. Set one on a laptop and it is there when you sign in on your phone. Delete it on one and it is gone on both.
An alert never trades. When you want JagSim to act at a price, place an order instead: a stop order sells (or buys) at the market once the price reaches your stop, and a limit order trades only at your price or better. Waiting orders keep working while JagSim is closed: the simulator checks them against every minute of trading since you placed them. An alert is for when you want to look again; an order is for when you want something done. How orders fill: how trading works on JagSim.
A free account holds 3 active alerts at a time; an alert that has gone off, or that you delete, frees its place. JagSim Pro has no limit, along with the rest of Pro’s chart tools. JagSim Pro has a one-week free trial with no card; the Plans page shows the price, and Free vs Pro lists every difference between the plans.
