Work backwards from your stop-loss to the biggest position you can safely take. Enter your account size, the most you're willing to lose (in dollars or as a risk %), your entry, and your stop price, this free calculator returns the max shares to buy and the total position value. Instant results.
Your stop-loss defines the loss per share: |entry − stop|. Buying at $50 with a stop at $47 risks $3 per share.
Your risk budget is either the max dollars you typed, or if you leave that blank, account size × risk %. A $10,000 account at 2% gives a $200 budget.
The most shares you can hold without breaking that budget is max shares = risk budget ÷ loss per share (rounded down). $200 ÷ $3 = 66 shares. Total position value is max shares × entry price, or $3,300 here. If a share can't fit the budget at all, the tool tells you to loosen the stop or the budget.
